Description
Camp Xakanaxa
Moremi Game Reserve
Camp Xakanaxa rests on the banks of the pristine Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve. Xakanaxa’s unique location makes it one of the few safari camps able to offer visitors an authentic and year-round water and land safari experience.
The dense riverine vegetation, open savanna, clear winding channels and seasonal floodplains that surround the camp make for a diverse habitat supporting many animals. Game drives explore the floodplains, dense areas of Mopane woodland as well as some of the open grasslands. Elephant, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard are all frequent sightings in the area.
Take an afternoon boat cruise out onto the lagoon and explore the incredible array of bird life, especially in the spring and summer months when the migrants are breeding. Your guide will navigate you through the open lagoons and the sometimes overgrown channels where it’s not uncommon to come across Elephants feeding or swimming.
Accommodation
Camp Xakanaxa has just eleven spacious classic Meru-style luxury safari tents. One of the tents is a two bedroom family tent. Each has an en-suite shower, twin hand basins and toilets. The camp and guest tents are on the very edge of the lagoon with excellent views from the deck in front of the tent. This is a classic tented camp with a great diversity of activities to fill your African safari dreams.
The main guest areas overlook the Khwai River and are set on raised platforms which allow for beautiful sun-downers, a lazy place to relax and magical dinners. The lounge and dining rooms both have a small library, comfortable chairs and a large deck. A plunge pool keeps the heat of the day bearable and has an open sala with day bed. The round communal fire area has been extended over the river and with a large tree hanging over it is a great spot for before or after dinner drinks. There is a larger pool with elevated sun deck away from the river.
