Chiawa Camp

Lower Zambezi National Park

Chiawa Camp is located on the banks of the Zambezi River in the famous Lower Zambezi National Park. Nestled under a dense grove of Mahogany trees’ the camp has been in the Cummings family since 1989. Over many years Chiawa Camp has evolved into one of the most luxurious safari camps in Africa.

The Lower Zambezi National Park borders Zimbabwe and Mana Pools. This is a World Heritage site as well as being a classic Important Birding Area. Species number in the hundreds and afternoons on your deck is a great place with your binoculars.

Accommodation

Chiawa Camp has eight Meru styled tents as well as a larger Safari Suite. This Safari Suite is perfect for families and couples on honeymoon. All the tents are connected to the main area by sandy pathways. Each tent is quite similar in its decor with inside and outdoor showers. Double vanity basins and luxurious amenities compliment each.

Tents one through six have beautiful views of the Zambezi River. All the tents are spacious, raised on wooden decks and have a door as opposed to tent flaps. Tents seven and eight overlook the Chowe River and are slightly larger.

Safari Activities

Morning and afternoon game drives are always the best time for game viewing. Highly experienced and professional, the guides are completely guest focused. Night drives are also possible as well as canoe trips and fishing. Giraffe and Wildebeest are not found in this area but a Cheetah has been spotted recently. Chiawa Camp and the surrounding area is always very rewarding for game viewing.

The best way to truly experience Africa on safari is to do a bush walk. Guides are able to focus on smaller stories and secrets of the bush.
