Description

Deteema Springs

Hwange National Park

Open year round

Located in a small private concession in the North West of Hwange National Park, Deteema Springs sits atop a small rocky outcrop. The camp overlooks a permanent natural spring that is an important water source for the wildlife of the area and especially Elephants.

Constructed with local materials the entire main guest area, lounge, bar, fire pit and swimming pool all overlook the vast plains and waterhole. The spring water seeps to the surface and ensures once in a lifetime wildlife sightings year round during game drives and during walking safaris.

Children from 6 years of age are welcome at Deteema Springs in a dedicated family suite situated right next to the main guest area. The camp has been built with an ethos of less is more making it a simple and unpretentious camp. Though we found this camp to be more luxurious than we expected.

Safari Tents

Deteema has 7 guest tents and one family tent, all with excellent views out over the plains from wide private decks at the front of each. The tents are very spacious and have a warm décor that typifies Africa. Soft furnishings and very comfortable beds complete the experience.

The en-suite bathrooms are made up of warm wood paneling with flushing toilet, wash basin and a piping hot shower.

The camp is very eco friendly with the majority of power generated by a solar panel farm while all water is recycled within a bio plant. The camp has no permanent fixtures and the site could be rehabilitated with 1.5 years if necessary.

Consider combining this with Khulu Bush Camp, Camelthorn Lodge or Iganyana Tented Camp. The more isolated Deka Camp is fantastic in its isolation and night drives.
