Description
Governors Private Camp
Masai Mara
Situated in a forested area on a secluded bend of the Mara River Governor’s Private Camp offers just eight tents that can be booked on an exclusive basis. The camp is peaceful and picturesque with amazing bird life and excellent sightings of both Hippo and Crocodile in the river below.
The camp has a scenic location which has been coupled with friendly staff and excellent guiding by professional guides. As an exclusive use camp this is ideal for extended families or groups that wish to travel and safari together. Guests are required to pay for a minimum of six tents for two nights in order to have the entire camp to themselves. At the time of our visit, we were the only couple there for two nights and it was absolutely incredible.
The main area of the lodge is relatively simple but has a warm design feel to it. There is a dining tent, with a large wooden dining table to accommodate all the guests and dinners are sociable and fun. While the evening meals are usually inside the tent, lunch can be served outside under the shade of the trees.
A separate lounge tent has several sofas and armchairs adorned with colorful cushions and throws.
The tented suites have ample space with a light feel to each. Four tents have king-sized beds and four twin rooms. Each room has a large en-suite bathroom at one end with open sided shower. Locally produced eco-toiletries are provided.
Daily activities are centered around game drives in the mornings and evenings – the best time for good game viewing. As this is a private camp there is much flexibility around the timings of the activities. Each evening the following days plans are made and guides will always try to fit in with your wishes. Balloon flights can easily be arranged. The launch site is at sister camp Little Governors’, a ten-minute drive away.
