Description
Hemingways Watamu
Watamu Marine National Park
Situated on Turtle Bay beach, Hemingways Watamu lies two hours North of Mombasa and is popular for big game fishing, long stretches of pure white beaches and incredible scenery. The hotel dates back to 1934 when Ernest Hemingway first visited the Malindi area.
The reception area of the hotel is steeped in grandeur that harks back to colonial days and was once extremely popular with the British jet set and famous people. There is a small curio shop and bureau de change here so no need to go out for curio’s or to change your money. The main restaurant is just around the corner from reception and surrounds the swimming pool with an extensive terrace area.
There is a fantastic selection of activities for guests to enjoy from adrenaline packed game fishing, local cultural attractions to simply relaxing by the pool, on the beach or a sunset dhow cruise with champagne.
Rooms
Hemingways Watamu has 76 rooms in two wings and all have sea views from their private balcony. There are several room types to choose from as well as a full four bed roomed ocean view penthouse.
Superior rooms have walk-in showers and are on the first and second floors of the South wing.
Deluxe rooms, which also have bathtubs and a third bed/day bed are on the whole of the North wing, and part of the ground floor of the South wing. If you’re looking for a deluxe room we’d recommend the North wing where some of the rooms have king-size beds.
