South Luangwa
Island Bush Camp allows safari enthusiasts the opportunity to be immersed into the pristine wilderness of South Luangwa National Park. And walking safaris are the best way to discover everything this area has. The camp is set under the cool shade of old mahogany trees on the banks of the Luangwa River.
Views from Island Bush Camp stretch from the Chindeni hills in the East to the Muchinga escarpment in the West. The hills and escarpment form a complete natural boundary to this remote and unbelievably beautiful wilderness. Each day brings new sightings and interactions with and among the animal and bird life.
With five bush chalets that have been beautifully decorated in a simple safari style comfort has not been compromised. Each tent is open to the front allowing for stunning views over the river, sounds of the bush drift through the tents giving a great up close experience. Each chalet is built out of natural materials and sits on a wooden platform high off the ground. Cosy beds are turned down each night behind mosquito nets.
En suite bathrooms that are on the same level as the rooms also face the river. Being completely open to the sky the bathroom is both a unique bush experience and beautifully designed.
Walking safaris are the main activity in this perfect piece of South Luangwa. This is your chance to explore the bush on a different level. Walking is done in small groups and are all escorted by an armed official wildlife scout and experienced guides. This ensures your safety and gives you an exciting and educational view of the bush at ground level.
Safari vehicles are utilized to access a variety of walking areas or to return from a walk after dark. Night drives to discover some of the nocturnal wildlife in the area is well worth a late night.
