Description
Ivory Lodge
Hwange National Park
Situated in the Sikumi Forest Reserve adjacent to Hwange National Park is Ivory Lodge. This is one of the easiest camps to access in the park either by self drive or via light aircraft and is very much family orientated. The lodge overlooks a natural waterhole that in the summer months can attract herds of Elephant in their hundreds.
The camp is fenced to keep the larger mammals out making the grounds safe for children to play. There is some excellent birding to be done in the grounds of the lodge. The main guest area lies under a large thatched roof where you will find the reception, bar and dining area. Walking out the front are green lawns down to the fire pit and the waterhole beyond. A swimming pool lies under shady trees’.
Accommodation
The rooms at Ivory Lodge consist of Treehouses and the Presidential Elephant Suites. Seven treehouses are built high up on a wooden platform and most of them have fantastic views of the waterhole. The rooms are simple and very comfortable, twin or double beds are enveloped by mosquito nets and the bathroom has a large shower.
The Presidential Elephant Suites are also raised on decks but not as high as the Treehouses. These rooms are slightly larger and have a private deck overlooking the waterhole – a great place for relaxing with a book. The en-suite bathroom has the addition of a bath.
There is a hide closer to the waterhole that provides astounding close up photography of whatever wildlife happens to be there quenching their thirst.
