Description
Khaudum and Linyanti – 10 Days
Namibia and Botswana
The Khaudum and Linyanti tour will take you deep into the wilderness of Khaudum National Park in Namibia’s Caprivi Strip.
Your tour starts in Livingstone, where we will introduce you to the majestic Victoria Falls. The sheer power, might and beauty of this natural phenomenon is an unforgettable experience! Enjoy a sunset boat cruise on the Zambezi River, before enjoying a delicious dinner back at the lodge. Early the next morning we head across the Namibian border to the Nkasa Rupara National Park on the Linyanti River. The region’s riverine forests shelter exceptional plant and bird life, while its life-giving waters attract elephants and other game. We will camp here, therefore visitors can look forward to incredible vistas of star-studded skies. Next stop – Namibia’s famous Caprivi Strip!
We head to our camp on the Kavango River in the Caprivi Strip – famous for its rich wildlife. Elephants and warthogs regularly wander through the camp, while visitors also have excellent sightings of hippos, antelope and myriad birds. One of the highlights of the trip is soon to follow, because from here we head to Khaudum Camp, with its pristine bushveld scenery. We will rest in this idyllic setting for a night before driving on to the remote and rustic Sikereti Camp. Spend two days experiencing the area’s incredible scenery and game, while nights bring the haunting calls of wild creatures.
Game sightings in this area are very good. There is little permanent water so the water holes are usually good places to sit and let the game come to you.
The final night of our tour will be spent at Namwi Island Camp, on the lush banks of the Zambezi River. The camp is serene, friendly and stunningly scenic, therefore it is a lovely conclusion to our Namibia chapter! We return back to the stunning beauty of Victoria Falls to conclude our tour.

Full Itinerary
Day 1 – Livingstone
On your arrival at Livingstone International Airport you will be met by Charles who will drive you to Maramba River Lodge for your first night. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing by the pool, discovering the mighty Victoria Falls and having sunset drinks on the deck. At 15h00 we will be collected for the short transfer to the Zambezi Waterfront where we will board Lady Livingstone for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Dinner will be with the team of African Safari Experts as well as the other guests in the group. Pierre will explain the following days itinerary. (D)
Day 2 & 3 – Nkasa Rupara National Park, Linyanti Swamps
Departing Livingstone early we drive through the rolling hills bordering Botswana. We will cross into Namibia at Sesheke and continue South into the Linyanti region that exists in the South of Namibia on the border with Botswana – a stunning region of dense reeds and pristine waterways. An early game drive in the cool early hours of the morning. If leopard or lion have not made a night time kill they could well still be out hunting. The riparian woodlands that border the Linyanti River simmer with life of all shapes and sizes, a wonderful area to explore and seek out the smaller animals. Elephant sightings are good in Nkasa Rupara of herds 20 to 50 strong as well as bachelor herds of males. Waterbuck, blue wildebeest, impala with excellent birding of all varieties. We will camp in the park this evening overlooking an open savanna area. (BLD)
Day 4 – Divundu, Caprivi Strip
Wake up to the many sounds and smells of the African bush! Breakfast under the trees starts our day and after we have packed up the camp we will game drive back to the gate. Driving towards Kongola we are passing through Mudumu National Park, the Kwando Core Area as well as the Caprivi Game Park and we have often had very good game sightings in this area. There are lots of local villages as well, a great chance to see how the people live in this area. Arriving in Kongola we will fuel up and continue to Divundu where there is a greater supply for fresh produce. Once all our shopping has been done we will head off to our camp for the evening. Set on the banks of the Kavango River the scenery is stunning. On the other side of the river is the national park, elephant, hippo, warthog and many bird species can be seen from the comfort of your camp chair. (BLD)
Day 5 & 6 – Khaudum Camp
We depart the Caprivi area early as we are heading for Khaudum where the roads are very thick sand and the going can be very slow and tough!
Our speed allows for good game viewing but once we arrive at the campsite the time and effort is visibly worth it! This campsite is fantastic! Good amenities, firewood for sale and scenery that will take your breath away!
We will spend two nights here relaxing in the camp, bird watching and doing game drives. (BLD)
Day 7 & 8 – Sikereti Camp
Heading South this morning we will take our time to traverse the distance. Going is once again tough, conditions in the park are very deep sand which needs low range 2nd gear most of the time.
There are many waterholes along the way that we will explore and spend time at. As water is scarce in the area the water holes are good places to spot game. Sikereti camp is more rustic but no less beautiful and we will spend two nights here relaxing, dining under the stars and enjoying the peace of wild Africa. (BLD)
Day 9 – Khaudum Camp
Heading back North we will be exploring all the way, visiting waterholes, taking the roads and tracks less travelled and used by others as we search for good game sightings.
During the heat of the day we will have lunch under a tree somewhere and relax as we wait for the temperature to drop.
Arriving at our campsite for the night we will relax, ease some still muscles and enjoy a gin and tonic as we share videos and photographs of the days sightings. (BLD)
Day 10 – Katima Mulilo, Namwi Island Camp
We will break camp and depart early this morning. It will take some time to get out of the park and back onto roads that allow for a little more speed. We are heading for the border town of Katima Mulilo where we will be camping for the night. Set on the banks of the Zambezi River the views are perfect and the birding along the pristine waterways varied and colorful. (BLD)
Day 11 – Livingstone
We will start the day with an early morning boat cruise along the river to give you a new and fresh perspective on the beauty of this area. After breakfast we will break camp and cross the border once again into Zambia at Sesheke. Arriving back in Livingstone in the early afternoon we will check in at our accommodation and have a final dinner together on the banks of the mighty Zambezi overlooking the Victoria Falls. (BLD)
