Description
Khwai Tented Camp
Moremi Game Reserve
Khwai Tented Camp is located in a beautiful setting within a community-run concession. The camp lies on the eastern border of the Moremi Game reserve, on the banks of a lagoon which flows into the Khwai River.
The vegetation around Khwai Tented Camp is made up of dense stands of Leadwood trees and riverine forest, these line the wide floodplains and the banks of the Khwai River and its tributaries. Being the first permanent water reached by wildlife moving between Chobe National Park and the Linyanti it attracts high concentrations of wildlife.
For much of the year the floodplain fills with water to form shallow, lily-covered lagoons. This attracts hundreds of colorful birds and the area is a very rewarding birding destination. Away from the river and plains Mopane woodland dots the pans that naturally fill with rainwater and act as waterholes, attracting many different animal species. Game viewing is excellent in this region all year. Guests will find many sought-after species including Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dog.
Safari Tents
Recently refurbished, Khwai Tented Camp has modern and spacious Serengeti-style tents with stylish interiors and private bathrooms. The camp has been designed to deliver a genuine safari style atmosphere.
Six elegant tents are perched on wooden decks, overlooking the tranquil waters of the lagoon. The camp exudes the charm of the old Africa with contemporary and luxurious furnishings. Morning game drives in this area are most often rewarding with good sightings of Lion, Leopard, Wild Dog, Elephant, Buffalo and many different antelope species. Night drives, usually not allowed in national parks, are often very exciting with fantastic sightings of the normally shy nocturnal cats. Genet, Leopard and Porcupine are seen regularly.
