Description
Kigelia Ruaha
Ruaha National Park
Closed April and May
Located in possibly one of the most beautiful Eastern parts of Ruaha National Park, Kigelia Ruaha sits on the banks of the Ifiguru River. The camp and guest tents nestle under a grove of Kigelia Africana or Sausage Trees’ that help the camp to blend perfectly into her environment.
The main guest area is a comfortable and cool area made up with beige canvas, a small lounge area is on one side with couch, chairs and coffee table. The opposite side is the main communal dining table but evening meals are more frequently held in a variety of locations under the stars. This area looks out over the river and also has a fire in the evenings for a drink before dinner.
Safari activities focus on game drives and the camp is one of the few that has a permit to do night drives as well. On our night drive we saw Lion, Aardwolf, Genet, Bat Eared Fox, Elephant and Porcupine. Full day drives with a packed lunch are possible but the game sightings are so good that just a half day is more than enough. Walking safaris can also be conducted here.
Safari Tents
While this is not a permanent camp the furnishings and comfort of the 6 safari tents are very adequate with natural colors and a wide deck at the front with comfortable chairs for relaxing. Tent #2 is the larger family tent and each has a personal radio for requesting escorts after dark.
The en-suite bathroom is separated by a curtain where you will find a small basin, toilet, clothing shelves and water jugs for brushing your teeth. Through another curtain is the outside bucket shower and plenty of hot water can be provided on request.

An alternative could be Ruaha River Lodge or combine this with Kiba Point, Kuro Tarangire or Lamai Serengeti.
