Loisaba Star Beds
Loisaba Conservancy
Jutting out from a rocky kopje (a small hill) in the Loisaba Conservancy the Loisaba Star Beds command incredible views out over the landscape. A permanent waterhole below the star beds attracts a constant stream of wildlife visitors making for incredible “arm-chair” safaris. Be sure to bring your binoculars as the dam is a distance from your room.
If you have never heard of a star bed it’s a bed on wheels with mosquito net that can be moved from the bedroom out onto the deck so you can sleep out under the African stars.
This is a small camp with a thatched main guest area with a lounge and communal dining area. The camp is supported by Loisaba Tented Camp and guests typically combine the star beds with nights at the main tented camp.
Our experience here was magical, the mosquito net doesn’t hinder your view of the stars and we heard Lion and Elephant in the night. Hot water is brought to your room in the morning for coffee or tea.
The Star Beds
The four rooms here are simple structures of stone walls with a thatched roof and wooden deck that looks out over the waterhole. Locally sourced wood has been used to create a very rustic interior and while the furnishings are simplistic it’s still very comfortable.
The bed itself has plenty of extra blankets and hot water bottles for the cooler nights but the experience of a night under the African stars is not be missed out on.
The en-suite bathroom is separated from the main bedroom by a low stone wall complete with a basin, shower and toilet.
For guests with limited mobility please let us know so that we can arrange for the camp to make accessibility easier for you.
