Description
Luwi Bush Camp
South Luangwa National Park
Luwi Bush Camp is one of the most isolated of the Norman Carr camps, there are no other camps for several miles and even fewer roads. Standing under several large Mahogany trees’ the camp has excellent views over a floodplain towards the dry Luwi River bed. While the camp is not close to the Luangwa River there are two large permanent lagoons that have an impressive population of Crocodile and Hippo.
The open sided main guest area is thatched with a sand floor that is home to the bar, a small lounge area and reference library with comfortable chairs for relaxing in. Several chairs surround the campfire and evening meals at the communal table change from the river bank to the river bed itself.
Not far from the camp is the Hippo Hide that has great views of the lagoons and is a fantastic place to relax with a cold beer and wait for the wildlife to come to drink. At an additional cost there is the opportunity to do a “sleep out” in the dry riverbed, comfortable mattresses are provided with a mosquito net as well as armed guards to keep the larger animals away. Bonfires burn through the night creating an idyllic atmosphere.
Chalets
Luwi has just five en-suite chalets made of local reeds and Elephant grass that are neatly tucked into the surrounding bush. Each chalet is unique in it’s design and can be made up as doubles or twins with walk in mosquito nets and reed mats on polished concrete floors.
The en-suite bathroom is very spacious and open to the skies for magical showers under immensely star studded skies. While there is no electricity here there are lots of lanterns that create their own special feeling to the camp.
A honeymoon chalet has been built a little away from the others and is slightly larger with a unique front wall that swings open revealing a private patio and incredible views from your bed.
