Description
Matemwe Lodge
Zanzibar
Matemwe Lodge has been built using local materials and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Each of the 12 chalets has a private veranda with hammock and sofa to relax with spectacular views.
Six triple-bed chalets are available, and there are two that have a private plunge pool. The large bathrooms have a deep bathtub and walk-in shower, and beds are all enclosed by mosquito nets.
Spend your days at Matemwe sitting poolside sipping on cocktails or have an afternoon nap in your hammock. Going for a snorkel or walking through Stone Town, days can be as action-packed or as relaxing as you desire. When you’re not out sampling the various cultural and aquatic activities you can enjoy some pampering at the spa.
Matemwe Beach is perfectly situated opposite Mnemba Atoll where you can dive or snorkel. Because the ocean is so calm a kayak is the perfect way to explore the rocky outcrops.
Matemwe is private and exclusive. The beach is still one of the quieter and more exclusive locations on the island. A 30-minute boat ride away is Mnemba Island with world-renowned coral reef that provides incredible diving and snorkeling. There is a good chance of seeing turtles and dolphins with colorful reef fish that dart around the coral.
Matemwe is just 60 minutes’ drive from Stone Town allowing for easy day trips. Discover the winding streets of this historic town where Freddy Mercury was born. Excursions to all corners of this fascinating island are possible from Matemwe.
Zanzibar is a stunning island, the birthplace of the famous singer Freddy Mercury and incredibly interesting from a cultural perspective.
