Description
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is perched high above the cool, swirling mists on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. The elegant and luxurious safari suites command breath-taking views over the surrounding landscape.
Once an enormous volcano, the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact caldera in the world. It is thought that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Over millennia it has collapsed and eroded forming an extensive highland area with the 600 meter (2 000 feet) deep crater as its focal point.
Nearly three million years old, this ancient caldera has formed one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black Rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked Elephant wander the forests and large male lion stalk the grasslands while Flamingo crowd the soda lakes.
An estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in the caldera including a population of approximately 6 000 resident Wildebeest, 16 rare black Rhino and around 70 Lion. Cheetah move in and out of the crater, while Leopard are most often encountered in the spectacular Lerai Forest. The Ngorongoro Crater is consistently recognized as one of the world’s most fantastic safari experiences in Africa. Situated right on the edge of the crater, views of one of the natural wonders of the world are simply out of this world.
