Description
Ol Malo Nomad
Laikipia Province
Closed in April, May and November
Ol Malo Nomad operates in the far North of Kenya out of the family owned Ol Malo House and Lodge from where the nomadic fly camping excursions depart. The Laikipia Rangelands are an area of approximately 9 500km² of incredibly diverse and spectacular landscapes from savanna grasslands to rolling hills and dense forests.
Nearly half of Kenya’s Black Rhino population reside here along with huge herds of Elephant and the critically endangered Grevy’s Zebra. Ol Malo Nomad offers adventurous guests the opportunity to explore the wilder places of this incredible countryside either walking, on horseback or via helicopter (additional cost).
The trips are not suitable for the mobility impaired and only for children over 5 years of age. Guests need to have some experience of horse riding if possible and be willing to forgo the usual luxuries of a bush camp. There is no connectivity of any sort making this the ideal experience for those that are looking for a remote and completely cutoff wildlife experience.
Fly Camping
After each days walking and riding your guides will have arrived at the next campsite and erected your tent, made your bed and begun preparing the evening meal. Tents are simple yet we found them to be adequate and quite comfortable. Meals are served around the campfire with the guides and this immersive conversation made for a unique bond between the group.
Ol Malo Nomad is a private excursion with a maximum of 8 guests on any trip and guided by the experienced Chyulu Francombe whose knowledge of the bush is unrivaled in this area.
