Your safari starts and ends in Dar es Salaam.

Flying in to Dar es Salaam for first time visitors can be surprised with this vibrant city and its different cultures. The Southern Sun Hotel is in a quiet section of the town and views from the rooms over the harbor or Botanical gardens are interesting.

In the morning you will enjoy some of the most incredible views of the country as you wing your way into the very heart of the Selous Game Reserve. Arriving at Siwandu airstrip you’re very aware of how deep into this game reserve you have flown. There is nothing but wild African bush for many miles around you. Day and night game drives, walking safaris, catch and release fishing and boat safaris will ensure you have the maximum exposure to the very dense wildlife populations of this area.

Jabali Ridge, perched on her outcrop, has stunning views of the river bed and the wildlife that feed on the vegetation at the fringes. How to Get There

Fly In

You can fly in to Dar Es Salaam with Ethiopian Airlines, KLM, Kenya Airways, South African Airlines, Emirates or Qatar.

On arrival in Dar Es Salaam you will be met at the airport by your safari representative who will drive you to the Southern Sun Hotel in the heart of the city. Relax over dinner and enjoy a good nights sleep before the start of your safari.

Full Itinerary

 

Day 1 – Dar Es Salaam Southern Sun Hotel

On arriving at Dar Es Salaam airport you will be met by your safari representative who will drive you to the Southern Sun Hotel for your fist nights accommodation.

Relax in beautiful surroundings with the Botanical gardens close by and enjoy dinner before a restful night.

Day 2 to 4 – Roho Ya Selous

After breakfast your guide will collect you and your luggage and return you to the airport for your flight to Selous Game Reserve.

Selous is the second largest game reserve in the world at over 45 000 square kilometers. You will be staying in the heart of the Selous for the next three nights taking morning and afternoon game drives, bush walks and a variety of other activities. Roho Ya Selous is tucked into a shady grove of trees close to the Northern End of Lake Nzerakera. The camp has eight spacious tented rooms. A swimming pool is available to cool off during the hotter parts of the day. Don’t be surprised if you’re joined there by a herd of Elephants as they wander through the camp.

Boat safaris are also very rewarding for game viewing as you quietly move along the Lake shores fishing.

Settle in and relax in your new surroundings before lunch in the main area of the camp. This is a beautiful shady area with fantastic views. In the afternoon you will meet up with your guide for afternoon tea. He will explain the remainder of the days activity which will be your first game drive.

The Selous is home to a wide variety and very high density of wildlife, your game drive is going to be very rewarding. The reserve is also home to the largest population of African Wild Dogs. Return to the camp in the evening and enjoy a delicious meal before retiring to bed. Let the honking of the Hippo serenade you to sleep.

Day 5 to 7 – Jabali Ridge

After breakfast this morning you will depart camp with your guide to Siwandu Airstrip and your light aircraft flight to Ruaha. On arrival you will be met by a guide from Jabali Ridge who will drive you to the camp. Settle in and relax in your new surrounds – quite different from Selous but no less stunning. In the afternoon you will have the choice of relaxing in camp or heading out on an afternoon game drive. Night drives can be pre-booked.

Ruaha National Park is home to one of the largest populations of Elephant in all of Africa. Vast herds of Buffalo and really impressive prides of Lion will ensure adrenaline packed game drives.

Jabali Ridge is perched on a small rocky outcrop which affords expansive views over the surrounding landscapes. The lodge is a sophisticated retreat that offers day and night game drives as well as walking safaris.

Each morning there is the choice of a walking safari or a game drive followed by a picnic breakfast in the bush. As you will be here for three nights you can take part in both at least once. Full day game drives with packed lunches can also be arranged.

Enjoy your three nights at Jabali Ridge, beautiful rooms, action packed game drives or walks and if relaxation is your preference then the swimming pool is the place to be.

Day 8 – Departure

After breakfast your guide will drive you back to Siwandu airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Dar Es Salaam and your onward flight arrangements.
