Description
Rufiji River Camp
Selous Game Reserve
Open 1 June to 28 February
Built on the banks of the Rufiji River, Rufiji River Camp sits several meters higher than the river affording great views out over the resident Hippo and Crocodile that bask in the sun. The camp is one of the first to be built in the Selous Game Reserve and the area is well known for incredible wildlife sightings.
The main guest area is a spacious affair with fantastic views, a small library, bar and lounge area where you can relax after meals, read or chat to fellow guests. The upstairs area is also decorated with African themed soft furnishings and it’s more private.
Activities at Rufiji River Camp include morning and afternoon game drives, walking safaris, full day game drives with a picnic lunch and for the more adventurous there is the opportunity to go fly camping. There are also boating safaris on the three lakes close to camp for a different photographic perspective on the wildlife.
There is also a swimming pool behind the main guest area that’s often frequented by Elephant herds.
Classic Tents and Suites
Rufiji has 3 large suites with 2 tents on one wooden platform with a private plunge pool. These are ideal for families or for honeymoon couples.
The 11 Classic tents are set under thatch along the banks of the river amongst the dense vegetation that’s home to Vervet monkey and the occasional Elephant that wanders through. The rooms and en-suite bathrooms are very spacious with great amenities and the deck at the front has chairs and a small table.
