Description
Sand Rivers Camp
Selous Game Reserve
Closed April and May
Located in one of the more remote areas of Selous, Sand Rivers Camp lies at the mile wide point of the Rufiji River. The river is lined with sand banks and shadowed by rocky outcrops at various points in Stiegler’s Gorge making the location fantastically diverse and interesting. The camp’s history is long standing as one of the very best safari camps in all of Africa.
The main guest area is a large but fairly simple thatched roof structure directly on the rivers banks and has extraordinary views. The whitewashed walls are quite chic looking but the rest of the décor is functional yet intimate. Comfortable chairs and couches, African art and a small library. The adjacent dining area can be set up for communal or individual dining.
Set slightly apart from this is a swimming pool with sun loungers and Wi-Fi, staff will serve you drinks with a ready smile. Game drives, boating excursions and fishing make up the core of the activities.
Safari Suites
There are 5 standard rooms set on the banks of the river to either side of the main guest area. All the rooms are completely open at the front to enjoy the views from the deck while the bed is draped in a mosquito net at night. There is a couch on the deck and the en-suite bathroom is separated by a low stone wall. Two of these rooms are linked by a raised deck so quite suitable as a family room.
3 suites are set apart and sit higher up the slope, these are much larger with a separate lounge area and private plunge pool at each.
