Description
Selous River Camp
Selous Game Reserve
Closed March, April and May
The award winning Selous River Camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji River on the border of Selous Game Reserve. With an elevated view over the river and the banks on the far side, sunsets are spectacular and Hippo wallow in the shallows close by.
As one of the largest game reserves in the world, Selous is famous for the diversity of wildlife and incredible game sightings. This is an African wilderness like no other with Elephant, Hippo and general antelope species regular visitors to the camp itself. Game drives, boating excursions and walking safaris are possible from the camp or you can simply relax to the myriad bird life.
Game drives are conducted in open sided vehicles, much better for photography than the pop up variety. Morning and after game drives or boating can be done as well as walking safaris within the reserve itself, led by an armed ranger and guide. Cultural tours can also be done in one of the nearby villages. Fishing can also be arranged with the lodge.
A swimming pool is located slightly back from the banks of the river in which to cool off. The camp is child friendly.
Accommodation
Selous River Camp has 9 very comfortable mud hut rooms lined along the river banks. Each has its own en-suite bathroom, solar power and fans for the hotter months.
For the budget conscious traveler there are 4 simple safari tents located within the forest that have separate bathroom and solar power.
