Description
Stanley’s Kopje
Mikumi National Park
Open 1 June to 28 February
Occupying the only elevated kopje in Mikumi National Park, Stanley’s Kopje looks out over the very popular Mwanamboga waterhole. Views out over the bush are incredible whether at the swimming pool, dining or simply relaxing on the deck in front of your tent.
Named after Morten Stanley as the explorer led an expedition right past the present camps location many years ago. The main guest area lies under a vast thatched roof and is nearly completely open on all sides. The center piece is the fire place, a very social place in the evenings to share pre dinner drinks and talk about the days sightings.
There is a swimming pool down a short stone pathway that is a a very pleasant location in which to relax, swim and watch the wildlife wander past. The camp is accessible for disabled travelers with one tent designed specifically for these guests.
Tented Rooms
There are 12 tents at Stanley’s Kopje, all are elevated on wooden stilts and spread around the hillside making each one feel very private and secluded. Three of the tents are designed as family tents, one is for couples on honeymoon and one has wheelchair access.
The tents are slightly larger than the her sister camp, Vuma Hills, and each has it’s own theme of an explorer or local chief. The best feature though is the huge deck at the front of each tent, this is the very best place to relax, birdwatch and spot game as they head to the waterhole.
