South Luangwa National Park

Track and Trail River Camp is an owner run camp on the banks of the Luangwa River within the Lupande Game Management Area. Kirsten and Peter – the owners – run an extremely smooth and enjoyable lodge. Their hospitality and care for their guests is well known.

Safaris from Track and Trail are an excellent way to discover the richness of the area on a budget holiday. The park is home to over forty different animal species and includes four of the Big Five. The park is also home to very high populations of Leopard, Hippo and Crocodile. A massive 400 species of birds have been recorded in the park making it a prime destination for avid birders.

Two family chalets with upstairs and downstairs bedrooms are ideal for families on a budget safari. There are also two regular chalets that have a downstairs bedroom with a lounge upstairs for relaxing during the day. The balcony is a great place for game watching. Wake up to the sounds of the bush all around you.

Each chalet has high ceilings, mosquito nets and en suite bathrooms. There are also more secluded chalets and a honeymoon chalet available.

Track and Trail are the only camp that have a hide which is very popular with guests and animals during the dry months. A swimming pool on the banks of the river will keep you cool during the heat of the day. The centrally located elevated swimming pool lets you take a refreshing plunge without missing out on the view.

How to Get There

Fly In

Fly into Lusaka with Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, Kenya Airways or Air Namibia. From here a light aircraft will fly you to Mfuwe Airport. On arrival at Mfuwe you will be met by your guide who will transfer you to the camp.

Self Drive

It is quite possible to drive to South Luangwa from Lusaka or Livingstone. The journey is a full days drive and would require an early morning departure.
